Hello all,
Fall is truly around the corner when the air turns cool like today. It is also a good reminder to bring warm clothes for cubbies -- long sleeves tend to get wet faster (and stay wet perpetually longer) which means we need even more spare changes of clothing for your children. It's also great for us if you have an extra jacket or sweater to leave in their cubbies -- we will use them (often and as needed) when we go outside to play. Our goal is to play outside every single day (unless there is a thundering downpour) even when it is chilly. Jackets that are easy for them to put on by themselves are super bonuses (we always are here to assist -- especially with the zipping or buttoning).
Next week features a spidery theme (in honor of, sort of, Halloween -- a holiday we don't celebrate at Emanu El, but the spiders can still help set the mood ... Remember we have our costume fun at our Purim Carnival in March!). We will be exploring spiders on Monday and Friday. No school on Wednesday, but we will see each of you at your scheduled conference time -- we will try our best to to keep on schedule & hope that you will help us with that. If needed, you may bring your Toddler to the free babysitting offered that day. It will be upstairs in room #205, the Parenting Center. Infants, especially if they are sleeping, are OK to bring into the conference.
Three reminders/announcements:
1) Monday, November 5 - Becker is closed for a Teacher Inservice. No classes for anyone -- even the teachers will not be at Becker as our Inservice will be held at another location that day.
2) Our Becker Annual Toy Drive for Tzedakah will be the week of Nov. 5th-9th. Please bring new toys to donate to those children who have so much less than we do.
3) Mitzvah Day is Sunday, November 11, 2012. While it may not be the easiest to participate with young children, there are many collections taking place leading up to Mitzvah Day. Pet supplies of all varieties will be donated to Friends for Life, a no-kill pet rescue organization; food for the hungry, clothing for the needy, and much much more (including new toys!). I can share more details with anyone interested - I am knitting 8" squares to donate for blankets that will be pieced together (a great way for a beginner knitter -like me- to practice and perfect the simple knit and pearl stitches!)
Hug your children and Enjoy the lovely weather.
truly,
Cathy (who will be spending every spare minute possible enjoying the Quilts at the International Quilt Show - opens on 10-31-12.
