Hello all,
The cowboys and cowgirls were extremely cute today! Next week our theme is "Let's Rodeo!" and we're happy to have more cowboys and cowgirls again (especially on Friday).
Today the big hit (besides the cowpoke garb) was making Hamantaschen! We used a very simple recipe: a box of sugar cookie mix to which we added 1 stick of butter and 1 egg. The children loved having an egg to touch and crack (even if I did the cracking this time). Humpty Dumpty revisited (just not splattered on the floor). Everyone stirred the mixture, rolled their dough into a ball, then flattened it. They could choose between strawberry or apricot (or a dab of both) for their 'innards'. Going into the oven, they looked like perfect hamantaschen (which are triangular in shape) -- but coming out of the oven, all seemed to be round sugar cookies with a triangle of jelly in the center! We sent them home in baggies in everyone's lunchbox (in case you missed seeing your child's).
As you have read in the Becker bulletins (the Buzz and the Brief), this is our year to be re-inspected for our accreditation by NAEYC. We expect the inspectors anytime between now and Spring Break. Please help us out by remembering to Sign-in and Sign-out everyday!
Other important announcements:
1) We are asking that everyone refrain from sending foods that need heating for lunch - at least until further notice.
2) This Sunday is Purim festivities (the Carnival opens at 11:00 and you can find me at the face painting booth!).
3) Thursday, Feb. 28, is our annual Becker Book Fair at Barnes and Noble (Holcombe & Buffalo Speedway) from 3:00 to 7:00. Volunteers are most welcome -- or just come browse all over the store (any book or magazine can be purchased for you -- and Becker gets a percentage back of all sales -- be sure to mention you're with Becker when you check out). Dine at Chick-Fil-A (in same shopping center), mention Becker when you are paying, and again Becker receives a portion of the purchases made. It's Becker night at both Barnes & Noble AND Chick-Fil-A.
4) Friday, March 1, is our annual Rodeo Tot Shabbat starting at 6:00pm. Calling all cowgirls and cowboys to come!
5) There really isn't a number 5 -- unless I've forgotten something .... ;^)
Enjoy your week-end, whether you are rodeo-ing or just relaxing with your littles. Hug them all for Elena and myself!
truly, Cathy
