Winter theme!

Hello all,

I hope everyone saw the email announcing the possibility that Becker will be closed on Monday (due to the boiler/heater being in disrepair & waiting for parts).  Watch for an email  blast sometime tomorrow (by 6:00pm) confirming weather Becker will be open or closed.  I will send out a notice if/when I hear anything.  Please reply immediately after you receive it so that I will know that you are aware that the school is Open or Closed (whichever it may be).

Meanwhile, our theme for next week is "Winter" and we will look at winter -the season- and cold weather animals (penguins, polar bears, etc...).  I will send the peek along later tonight (waiting for my turn at the desktop computer so that I can "PDF" the peek - my laptop is old and unable to perform that simple trick).  If you can, please freeze some ice for us -- empty yogurt or other plastic containers work great (larger than an ice cube tray as the larger block of ice takes longer to melt!)  Bring the ice on Mon. or Wed. as it will go directly into our sensory table to melt.

More important announcements/reminders for this week and next:
Monday, January 14th  at 9:15 in the morning is the next Becker PTO meeting (if the building is open).
That same Monday evening features a Parenting Program at 6:30 p.m. at the ERJCC (the JCC on S. Braeswood).  Phylis Tomlinson will present, "Let's Have Fun Parentng and Help Our Children Learn."  Phylis is well known parenting instructor.  She also teaches the parenting series, Love and Logic.

Friday, January 18 is Shabbat and Play, 6:00 pm   Reservations for your children are due on Wednesday, January 16 by 4:00pm to jimj@emanuelhouston.org.  This is a free Shabbat program for children while their parents attend Shabbat services. The children get to play in the Becker wing while parents enjoy the Shabbatones musice at services in the Chapel.

Monday, January 21 (in one week)    School is Closed for Martin Luther King Holiday.

Wednesday, January 23  8:30 am Fathers' and Friends' Breakfast for our class.  Dads (or another adult - grandpa? uncle? neighbor?...) are invited to join us in our classroom for a light breakfast and more.  Dads, we promise to send you off  around 9:30-ish or so.

Friday, January 25   12:00 Dismissal for ALL Becker students as there will be a Teacher In-service that afternoon.

That's all for now!  I'll be in touch again later (with the Peek) and again after that with news about Monday - do we have an unexpected school holiday.

Any questions?  Please ask!

truly,  Cathy & Elena
